Special Response Team
The Special Response Team (SRT), also called SWAT in other places, is made up of individuals from several divisions, to include Patrol, Mental Health, Warrants, and Criminal Investigations. Each member must be recommended to assess for the team, and they are required to be physically fit and highly skilled in all aspects of the job requirements. Each member must successfully complete a physically and mentally intensive SWAT school before completing their internal training with the team. Members will spend six more months learning every aspect of the possible requirements in relation to the varying missions prior to being full team members. SRT Members are tasked with becoming instructors and will become proficient instructing various tactical and regular duty disciplines, while also assisting in training and teaching other personnel within their own Divisions. SRT trains together for approximately 200 hours a year to best prepare for any situation that it may be faced with.
The SRT is trained and equipped to respond to, and successfully resolve, the following high-risk incidents, including but not limited to: Active shooter and potential mass homicides; barricaded persons; high-risk arrests; high-risk searches; hostage situations; personal security; search and rescue; special events; riots and civil disobedience; stake outs; terrorist threats or attacks; threatened suicide intervention; or any other activity or situation deemed appropriate.
The SRT has several vehicles assigned to the group, which includes equipment vehicles, tactical medical transport, and armored vehicles.
The Sheriff has made the team available to any community within the thirteen counties of the Concho Valley region, with the overall goal of making our entire region as safe as possible.
