PATROL DIVISION

The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office (TGSO). The division is made up of sixteen Patrol Deputies, four Corporals, four Sergeants, and one Lieutenant. The division provides 24 hours per day coverage, 365 days a year, to the citizens of Tom Green County. As of 2024, Tom Green County has approximately 120,000 citizens.

Deputies patrol the unincorporated portions of Tom Green County. These areas include:
Carlsbad, Christoval, Dove Creek, Grape Creek, Harriett, Knickerbocker, Mereta, Orient, Pecan Creek, Quail Valley, Tankersley, Vancourt, Veribest, Wall, and Water Valley.

Patrol Deputies respond to citizens' calls for assistance, conduct traffic enforcement, investigate traffic crashes and investigate reports of crime or suspected criminal activity. Patrol Deputies are the first responders to any crisis that occurs within the boundaries of Tom Green County, which encompasses over 1500 square miles and over 1033 miles of lane roadways.

Once hired, Patrol Deputies go through an intensive Field Training Program, where they are taught and guided by seasoned Deputies, prior to becoming solo TGSO Patrol Deputies. Every Patrol Deputy responds to any call for service they are dispatched to, which may be a simple civil issue, all the way through a homicide. They must have all around skills and abilities to deal with anything they may encounter on a daily basis. Your Deputies continuously improve by attending mandated, general, and specialized training as they move forward in their careers.

Tom Green County is part of the Concho Valley Council of Governments (CVCOG) Region, which has a Regional Law Enforcement Academy that many of our Deputies attended. Please click here for more information.
