Special Operations Group

Special Operations Team Patch

Tom Green County Sheriff's Office utilizes a Special Operations Group in high-risk situations involving threat of human life. The Special Operations Group consists of the Special Response Team (SRT) and the Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU).

The mission of the Special Operations Group is to resolve critical incidents requiring law enforcement action in an efficient and effective manner while minimizing danger to victims, responders, and uninvolved parties.

During a critical incident, the SRT and CNU work together, with negotiators attempting to establish dialogue while the SRT positions themselves strategically to intervene if needed.

Both SRT members and negotiators undergo extensive training in their respective areas, with CNU training monthly and SRT training at least twice a month.

Following authorization of the Sheriff or Chief Deputy, Special Operations Group (SOG) members respond to the following high-risk situations including, but not limited to:
1. Active shooter and potential mass homicides;
2. Barricaded persons;
3. High-risk arrests;
