TOM GREEN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO BE HONORED WITH FORMAL RESOLUTION ON IT'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY
SAN ANGELO, TX-The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office will be formally recognized for 150 years of dedicated service to the community with a special resolution presented at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Tom Green County Commissioners Court.
The resolution commemorates the establishment of the Sheriff's Office in 1875 and highlights its unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Tom Green County for a century and a half. The Sheriff's Office has played a vital role in upholding public safety, enforcing the law, and maintaining peace across the county. The Sheriff's Office was first organized on April 7, 1875 when Sheriff Frank Lamonte ran the office as a one-man operation. Since then, the office of Sheriff has been held by a total of 23 sheriffs and has grown to a staff of 236 members, including the Tom Green County Detention Center.
Sheriff Nick Hanna stated, "This milestone is not just about our agency-it's about the deputies, staff, and the citizens we serve. For 150 years, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has stood as a pillar of safety and justice in our community. We are honored to celebrate this legacy with our residents and leaders. As individuals, we are dedicated to striving to provide the best law enforcement service possible for the citizens of Texas and of Tom Green County."
The formal resolution will be presented during the Commissioners Court session, which begins at 8:30 AM in the Tom Green County Commissioners Courtroom with county officials, law enforcement personnel, and community members in attendance. Following the reading of the resolution, Sheriff Hanna will present commemorative 150th Anniversary badges, purchased by the deputies themselves, to several command staff members as representatives of their departments. The remaining commissioned officers of the Sheriff's Office will receive their commemorative badges throughout the remainder of the week.
Additional activities to commemorate the anniversary are being planned for police week, May 11th through May 17th, 2025.
