TGSO CONDUCTS COMMMUNITY ACTION PLAN AT DANGEROUS INTERSECTION

Date Posted: 04/25/2024

In response to the concerns of Tom Green County citizens and the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office implemented a Community Action Plan targeting the intersection of U.S. Highway 87 North and Farm to Market Road 2105.
The plan focused on enforcing traffic violations in the area which can contribute to crashes at the intersection.

Earlier this month, Deputies focused efforts during a two-day period and worked modified schedules where traffic was expected to be at the highest volume.

During the operation, Deputies conducted 55 traffic stops for traffic violations, such as Speeding, Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failing to Signal Turn, Failing to Signal Lane Change, Failing to Signal Required Distance, and multiple equipment violations. During this operation, Deputies also conducted 3 probable cause searches of vehicles and made 1 arrest. Deputies issued a total of 16 citations and 55 warnings.

The breakdown of citations and arrests is as follows:

16 total citations issued:

Speeding: 6

Disregard Stop Sign: 2
Driving while License Invalid: 2
No Driver License: 4
Expired Vehicle Registration: 1
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: 1
Additionally, one person was arrested for Driving While License Invalid.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the citizens to use caution at intersections, to stop at designated stop points, and to drive defensively.
