Date Posted: 09/03/2024

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office received a call about a vehicle occupied by a male, female and small child that was swept away by swift water currents in the flooded area of McMillan and Wright Road.  This area is located in northeast Tom Green County.  Upon arrival deputies observed a truck cab visible in the rising water, about 150 yards from the roadway.  Deputies observed three male subjects, one female, and a young child (3 YOA) hanging on to a nearby tree as the victim's truck was submerged and swept into the tree.  Deputies entered the water and attempted to rescue the individuals.  During the rescue one of the individuals panicked causing the rescuing deputy to struggle to stay above water.  The San Angelo Fire Department arrived on scene and additional personnel were forced to enter into the rising water to assist in the rescue.  Utilizing the available swift water rescue equipment, first responders were able to successfully rescue all individuals and extract three first responders.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office would like to recognize and thank the San Angelo Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their efforts.
