Date Posted: 05/20/2021

For the second time today, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office was involved in a pursuit which resulted in a criminal arrest.

At approximately, 2:23 PM, a deputy with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of N. Bryant Boulevard.    As the deputy approached the vehicle on foot, the vehicle accelerated and fled the stop.    During the subsequent pursuit, the vehicle came to a temporary stop in the 3700 block of N. Bryant Boulevard and a front seat passenger of the vehicle exited and fled on foot.

After the passenger bailed out, the driver of the suspect vehicle continued to evade marked units.    The pursuit was discontinued a short time later; however, the suspect's vehicle was located in the 2600 block of Jomar Street.    A canine and foot search for the driver was unsuccessful; however, an investigation is currently in progress at the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.    At this time, there is no known current threat to public safety as a result of this incident.

Assisting units were able to apprehend the passenger who was identified as Guadalupe Vargas, 35 YOA.   Vargas was arrested on outstanding warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and a number of City of San Angelo warrants.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the San Angelo Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Homeland Security.
