SCAM ALERT

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of someone posing as a "Detective Brooks" claiming to be with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.  The caller instructed the citizens to come to the Sheriff's Office in regard to DNA testing or having outstanding warrants.  The caller is requesting payment. 

Scammers use many tactics to sound and appear credible. They sometimes provide information like badge numbers, or names of actual law enforcement officials. They may also spoof their phone numbers to appear on caller IDs as if they are calling from a government agency. 

The Sheriff's Office will NOT SOLICIT funds or payment over the phone.

Individuals with outstanding warrants are not contacted by telephone or email asking for payment by means of a gift card, money card or credit card. 

If you should receive one of these calls, please hang up on the caller and block their number.  DO NOT give any personal information over the phone.
