Jewelry Scam Alert

Date Posted: 01/28/2019

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office wants the citizens of Tom Green County to be aware of a current scam that is occurring in the San Angelo area.  Victims have been approached in the parking lots of numerous convenience stores, grocery stores and department stores by both adults and children.  The children claim that their parent has lost their wallet and they do not have money for gas or food.  They offer to sale a "gold" ring that is stamped 14 or 18 carat gold that they claim is worth $800.00 for a couple hundred dollars.  Multiple victims have fallen for the scam.  When the victims take the ring to a gold buyer, they find out the ring is made of brass and does not have any value.   A grey or black SUV has been associated with this recent scam.   If you are approached with this scam, please try to get as much information as you can on the vehicle that is being used or the persons involved and report it to your nearest law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Beware and don't become another victim of this current scam.
