Date Posted: 06/15/2017

In a press release distributed on June 15, 2017 , the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office along with San Angelo FBI announce that the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) has been contacted to assist in the 1988 double homicide investigation of Shane Stewart and Sally McNelly.

According to the FBI, "The FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) provides assistance to law enforcement agencies across the country and around the world through investigative analysis. This work involves reviewing and assessing the facts of a criminal act, interpreting offender behavior, and interaction with victims. Their work attempts to shed light into the how and why of the crime and the extent and level of pre-planning involved. The BAU conducts detailed analysis of crimes which can be used to assist investigators. They can offer investigative suggestions, interview strategies, search warrant assistance, and expert testimony."

Members of the BAU have recently travelled to San Angelo and met with the investigative team consisting of the TGCSO, Texas Rangers and San Angelo FBI. The BAU was provided with critical case information wherein they were able to share both critical investigative analysis and possible evidentiary opportunities.

Every effort to bring this case to a successful conclusion will be explored.  Further developments are expected and updates will be provided.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is requested to contact the TGCSO or San Angelo FBI.
