Coronavirus (COVID-19) Jail Protocol
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Protocol
The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and Jail is committed to partnering with the community to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and protecting the health of our staff and inmates. To that end, the jail has implemented the following protocol:
ALL persons; to include staff, arresting officers and arrestees, entering the facility will be screened utilizing the screening questionnaire suggested by the Centers for Disease Control. In addition every person will be subject to having their temperature taken prior to entry.
Anyone exhibiting symptoms or with a fever of 100.4 or above will be denied access. Officers are stationed at both entrances of the facility to ensure everyone is screened.
Individuals arrested will be screened using the same procedures as listed above. In the event an arrested individual exhibits symptoms or has a temperature of 100.4 or above, they will be given a surgical mask and referred to the Tom Green County Jail Medical Department. If after screening the Medical Department deems it necessary, the individual will be transported to the hospital for further testing.
If an individual already incarcerated begins to exhibit symptoms related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the same protocol will be followed. Upon clearance from the hospital, the individual will be isolated until the symptoms subside and the individual is cleared by medical staff to return to population.
Entry has been limited to only essential personnel necessary for the safe and secure operation of the facility.
Upon the recommendation of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, all visitation from the lobby of the facility has been suspended. In addition we have suspended 37 TEX. Admin Code §287.1 Education and Rehabilitation Plan upon TCJS recommendation.
We recognize the importance of contact with family and friends and the positive impact educational and rehabilitative programs have on our incarcerated individuals, however the safety of our staff and inmates is paramount. We appreciate your understanding and patience during these unprecedented times. We will continue to monitor the status of the pandemic and will follow all recommendations of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the Centers for Disease Control and the Office of the Governor of Texas.
